About Reveal:
•Reveal
is a magazine about festivals taking place in North London (brief)
•The
magazine will talk about who will be performing in these festivals and where
the festivals are
•There
will be exclusive interviews from celebrities performing in these festivals
•The cost of the magazine will be £3
•The magazine will be released
monthly
•Will
be sold online and in populated areas around North London (brief)
Objectives
•For the first 2 years, the
objective is to survive in the market, as well as making sure that Reveal is
able to be competitive in the market.
• After the first year the the
objective is to be fairly well known amongst some areas of North London.
•The long term objective is to be
the most well known magazine in North London, making big profits year in year
out.
My magazine is going to be talking about many different festivals that take place in North London. It will also have inside interviews from different celebrities who have done or will be performing in festivals happening in North London. As well as this, there will be information on actual celebrities and also information on festivals taking places and websites that will allow you to purchase tickets for these festivals. The double page spread will have inside an interview with one of the artists I have interviewed, Clark Pollins. The first page will have a picture of the artist and a quote from him and the second page of the double page spread will have the questions and answers from the interview with the artist. This is important because it will be informing my target audience about the vibrant music scene that is developing locally, as well as up coming talent.
Article Ideas
The article ideas I have for my magazine include interviews, Q&A and reviews.
I will conduct interviews of different artists and for the purpose of my first magazine, this will be what I intend to use. It will be entertaining for my target audience and could encourage them to buy their music.
Q&A is useful for artists, festival promotors or even managers.
I could also create an article that reviews different festivals and offers my target audience advice on where is best to go.

The Concept
The
magazine will be all about different festivals that have and are set to happen
in north London. The pages inside the
magazine will feature different singers that have performed in a festival/s in
north London before, as well as different festivals and information on these
festivals, for example the date of the festival. The double page spread will
feature a singer talking all about their experience in Wireless festival ( a
festival in North London).
Target Audience
The target audience for my magazine is people between the ages of 18-30, of any gender. They are people who live in North London as the magazine is all about festivals and celebrities from North London. As well as this, it is aimed at people who are earning either average or above income as the magazine is aimed at festival lovers and festivals cost quite a lot of money to go to. Their education level, occupation and marital status is irrelevant. I will make sure to appeal to my target audiences wants and needs by making the magazine is relatively modern as younger people are attracted to more modern magazines. The font and style will be modern too. I'll also make sure to include what I know are very popular festivals with my target audience, such as Wireless festival as this is are to appeal to my target audience.
With regards to the NRS social grade, my magazine will target the mid-lower band: BC1C2. This is because my magazine will be around £3 and will include content that appeals to this type of audience.
•The secondary target audience is 30 – 40 year olds because I have researched and found out that it is this age group that buy magazines more then any other age group. There are also many 30 -40 year olds who go to festivals too.
Competitors
This is an image of the front cover of one of our competitors, Clash. This is a competitor due to the fact that the prices of this magazine and my magazine are the same. They have a very unique front cover with bold colours and bold fonts. They have very unique images to with 4 models being used.
This is another image of a festival magazine front cover. They are a competitor due to the fact that a lot of this magazines content is very similar to the content in my magazine. They are one of Reveals main competitors. This front cover shows people at a festival enjoying themselves and having a good time, focusing on a specific person.
This is another festival magazine, UK based, meaning it is a competitor to my magazine. This is a competitor to my magazine has they have chosen to focus on very similar to artists to what my magazine has focused on. The front cover features a female singer who is performing at Love Box festival, and also on the front cover is writing which talks about various celebrities that are going to feature at this festival.
Marketing Plan & Strategy
The three main marketing methods I will be using is website advertisement, word of mouth and online marketing. I will be ensuring the magazine is advertised on festival websites as I know that the people on festivals are the same sort of people that will be interested in a magazine like mine. By advertising on websites I believe that I will be able to get more sales as more people will buy the magazine. I will also be advertising my magazine through word of mouth. I believe this is a great way of spreading awareness of my magazine in a quick way too. I can also put across more detail through word of mouth since it will be coming directly from myself. The third marketing method I will be using is online marketing. This is because 18-30 year olds, (my target audience), spend a lot of time online so I believe that by advertising my magazine online they will be more likely to see it. This includes advertising on different websites, advertising during online videos and advertising on social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat.
Reveal magazine’s marketing strategy focuses on advertisement around the area of North London. This advertisement will include posters being put up on shops and bus stops (with permission of course), as well as on social media and also by employees being on the streets of North London with copies of Reveal.
The justifications I have for these different methods link primarily to my target audience, especially the social media focus. This is because my target audience connect and interact more on social media, therefore it is important to market the magazine there to ensure that there will be lots of activity. By promoting it online they can share, tweet or retweet posts and raise the profile of the magazine.

Reveals main competitors are The Wire, Fest magazine and Clash. These magazine companies all focus on festivals which is why they are my competitors. Here is an example of one of the competitors, Clash, front cover:

Distribution
I will be distributing my magazine through having people with a bunch of my magazines in north Londons most populated streets. These people will be selling the magazines to as many people they can, trying to sell as much as they can to people walking past. Due to North London streets being busy, this is a good opportunity to gain more sales.
I will also be selling the magazine in our website that will be created. People can access this websites through advertised online links. Providing a digital online copy for my target audience will be popular as younger people can access this on their smartphones, which is what they use.
I will distribute my magazine in printed format in corner shops/newsagents or even larger supermarkets. This is because my target audience use these places and it will gain high exposure.
Another distribution method could be using events/festivals as a key opportunity. As my magazine will be promoting festivals, this is the perfect place to sell my magazine. Not only will it gain high exposure, but it also encourages my target audience to use social media to advertise/promote my magazine. This is also a key theme of my magazine (festivals) so by adhering to my target audience's hobbies, they will be more inclined to buy the magazine.
Lastly, universities/colleges would be a good place to sell my magazine as again this is where my target audience will be.
I believe these distribution methods will be effective when trying to sell as many magazines as possible.

Resources and Personnel
Resources
The equipment I will be using is:
Hardware:
- A camera: A camera is vital to this production. I will need it to take the photographs of my artists.
- A tripod: I will require this so that I can set up the shots of each image and level them. Without a tripod, my photographs may be off centre.
- SD card: This will be required so that I can take images and save them all.
Software:
- Photoshop: This will be the software that I will use to manipulate images, design my front cover/double page spread and write my body copy.
I will require all of these resources to aid the creation of my magazine.
Personnel:
With regards to personnel these are the people that I will require to help produce my magazine:
*For the purposes of the first edition, as I am making this copy myself I will be carrying out each task myself*
- Editor
An editor of a magazine is responsible for overseeing the content and quality of the magazine. They are needed to ensure the magazine is as quality and professional as possible in order to maximise sales.
- Artists to review and photograph
They check to make sure how suitable the photographs are for the intended final product and whether or not it is good enough to be in the magazine.
- Photographer
When making a magazine, a photographer has to take the suitable pictures of the main model for the front cover and any other photographs that will feature in the magazine. They will be required to take different shots such as close up shots and medium shots in order to get the best angles and pictures.
Graphic designer
The job of a graphic designer is to create visual concepts for the magazine, either by using computer software or by hand, that communicate ideas to the consumers in order to captivate them.
Genre
The genre of the magazine will be festival featuring pop too, because most festivals that I will be talking about are pop festivals with pop singers performing in them.
Colour scheme
The main colours of my magazine will be green, red and white. The background of my front cover will have a green background due to the location where the picture for the front cover was taken. Using the colour green will also connote the environment of the festivals - green grass. The use of the colour red will connote the passion that my target audience have for festivals and music. The font colours on the front cover will be a variation of black, white and red. The double page background colour will be mainly red, with the font colour being white.

Fonts
I
have narrowed it down to 3 possible font that’s I may use for the magazine.
These 3 fonts include:
- Noteworthy
- Monaco
Overall the font I have decided to use for the magazine is Bodoni 72 because I believe that font best represents the magazine. As well as this, the font looks professional yet simple and easy to recognise and read, which I believe is perfect for the magazine.
Sketched layouts
Conclusion
After looking at the strengths and weaknesses of all my different ideas, I have decided to do a magazine on festivals in North London. The magazine will act as a guide to telling people all about the different festivals that will be taking part in North London, who will be performing in them, and where they are. I will meet the brief by ensuring that my chosen idea for the magazine is suitable for the target audience and fits in well with the festival theme.

Mood Board
My mood board has different images of people dancing, singing and camping and all things that I believe represent a festival and what a festival is about. We aim for our magazine to illustrate as much vibrancy and fun as demonstrated on this moodboard.

These are images of my sketched layouts of what my front cover and double page spread of my magazine should like. These sketches are important as they'll help me to make my actual magazine as I'll have a an image already of what it should be looking like. It adheres to the codes and conventions of music magazines and magazines in general with their being a clear masthead, main image and cover lines.
